Hi! I'm back! A joy of retirement is that I can pretty much come and go as I please. Last week I decided I had enough of the unseasonably cold temperatures, not to mention 2 or 3 months of subzero ones this winter. So I booked a last minute flight to the Brisas Sierra Marr [roughly translated "breeze, sea, mountains"] a terraced all inclusive resort about an hour or so out of Santiago de Cuba on the side of the Sierra Mountains, overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Each morning, after breakfast I headed down to the beach where I sat in a lounge chair under a palm tree reading books I wanted to read [as opposed to ones I have too or should read etc etc as throughout my teaching career]. Taking long frequent swims out to the coral reef where I'd snorkel for an our or two, then back to lie under the palm. Wander over to the beach grill at lunch. Then back to my chair, the sea ...well you get the picture.
I will be writing a few blogs for the readers who follow my trips, especially the dive ones. Also another on a short Cuban Schools Project meeting I held one day at the hotel for my teacher friends from town. We've got an exciting new idea for a retirement project in mind; a language, cultural, music, dance visit + stay program for folk who would like to spend a bit of time locally in Santiago de Cuba trying something a little different. Nothing certain yet, but more on that later.
In the meantime, there is some school and union business I would like to catch up on. You will find my Teacher April News + Views feature posted soon. Plus a few other pertinent blogs you might find of interest and so on.
By the way, a reader suggested a blog on best local unit practises, perhaps as a prelude to or for discussion purposes pertaining to the various all affiliate spring unit AGMs which will be beginning soon. A capital idea if anybody would like to host it. Let me know if interested via my gmail address, top right of your screen.
